Plastic Killing Fields
There are in our oceans, huge areas where plastic flotsam collects: Plastic Killing Fields. The environmental impacts of this are severe: “the United Nations Environment Program says plastic is accountable for the deaths of more than a million seabirds and more than 100,000 marine mammals such as whales, dolphins and seals every year.” The worst part is that because plastic is so durable, after it kills, it simply returns to where it was floating around in the sea and kills again and again.
